SUMMER SCHOOL: Courses beginning June 15 spared the knife

About 30 online courses ranging from Accounting to Sociology will go on as planned this summer at Los Angeles Harbor College. But the bulk of the campus' offerings - about 200 in all scheduled to begin after July 1 - remain on the shelf as the fallout continues from Wednesday's Board of Trustees vote to cancel the second session of classes.

Reaction to summer school cancellation

District elects to cancel all classes after July 1, wiping out all of LAHC courses.

Students reacted in disgust and anger Thursday to the cancellation of summer classes at Los Angeles Harbor College. The move was announced late Wednesday night in an email to faculty and staff from college President Linda M. Spink, who indicated that other cuts are surely to follow as a result of the on-going state budget crisis.

Possible campus expansion is on the horizon. But nothing is set in stone. David Hart, Resource Person for Harbor College, briefed the College Planning Council about a potential land swap with the Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation in a Jan. 26 meeting held in the Student Services and Administration Building.
